100 million euros! Laporta’s imagination is wild, even Lewandowski wants a salary cut. Why did Barcelona sign Haaland

  • by

Even though Haaland’s contract with Manchester City still has nearly four years left before it expires, there are still many cautious speculations that Haaland will leave the team coached by Guardiola. Of course, it does not mean that Haaland’s future will always belong to Manchester City, including big clubs such as Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint Germain who are all eyeing Haaland. However, if Barcelona keeps an eye on Haaland, they have almost no chance of signing him. According to Spanish TV Channel 6, Barcelona will sign Haaland this summer, and the two sides have reached a condition of 100 million euros.

According to Fran ç ois Gallardo, a journalist from Six TV, Haaland will join Barcelona in the summer window this year. Everything has been settled for a long time, and Barcelona will pay nearly 100 million euros. Leaving aside the issue of whether the two sides have reached an agreement, a transfer fee of only 100 million euros is not what Barcelona can currently afford. Their current transfer budget is almost entirely obtained through club leverage. If they want to sign Haaland, it means they need to continue to increase leverage, but there seems to be little room for further increase.

Secondly, if Barcelona wants to sign Haaland, it is also a crucial issue to determine what level of salary they need to pay him. At present, Haaland’s fixed weekly salary at Manchester City is £ 400000. Last season, despite receiving most of the bonuses, his weekly salary even reached £ 870000, which is also the highest salary in the Premier League. At present, Barcelona’s salary space does not even allow for the signing of new players. To sign Haaland level players, one must sell several high paying players who have fallen behind, but this is not something that Barcelona can achieve if they want to sell.

If Barcelona offers the same salary as Manchester City, Haaland has no possibility of joining Barcelona. Currently, Manchester City’s competitiveness in European football is not comparable to Barcelona’s. Guardiola’s team won the European treble last season, and Barcelona still has a considerable gap from winning the Champions League. Moreover, even if Haaland has the idea of leaving Manchester City, his first choice should still be Real Madrid. Barcelona’s attraction to Haaland is not that great, and Haaland’s technical characteristics are not particularly matched with Barcelona.

Finally, Barcelona’s current internal issues require a lot of time and effort to be resolved, such as the contract issue with center Lewandowski. Lewandowski’s current salary has exceeded 26 million euros, which has put a lot of salary pressure on Barcelona. Moreover, Lewandowski’s salary next season exceeds 30 million euros, and there are few teams other than Saudi Arabia that can match him. Barcelona is currently trying to persuade Lewandowski to renew his contract and share this portion of the salary. Under such conditions, it is undoubtedly La Porta’s imagination to sign Haaland.
